LLL: Inform Mothers of Effects of Circumcision on Breastfeeding Petition

In the 1981 edition of “The Womanly Art Of Breastfeeding” under “Elective Surgery for You or Your Baby,” there was mention of how circumcision affects breastfeeding, however, the LLL omitted it in all subsequent editions. Many want to put this important info back in there. Please sign and share with you friends and family! Thank you so much! http://www.petitiononline.com/170211FM/petition.html

An Excerpt of the written petition:

To: La Leche League

I firmly believe that parents should be made aware of any interventions, including circumcision, that may impact breastfeeding. In the 1981 edition of The Womanly Art Of Breastfeeding under a section called “Elective Surgery for You or Your Baby,” there was mention of circumcision as well as tubal ligation. However, the LLL omitted it in all subsequent editions, claiming “… circumcision to be outside the realm of our expertise in La Leche League. Other organizations can do a better job of educating parents about circumcision than LLL…” (from this link: http://www.llli.org/llleaderweb/LV/LVOctNov00p94.html)

I firmly believe that it’s is a hugely relevant breastfeeding issue, & the 1981 edition was neither harsh nor judgmental. I believe that the LLL should reevaluate its official stance and that the text regarding the effects of circumcision on breastfeeding from the 1981 edition of the The Womanly Art Of Breastfeeding should be re-inserted into all future editions, failing which I will have to reconsider my support of your organization, and encourage a boycott of this otherwise very useful book. Most lactivists are also intactivists and do not support routine hospital infant circumcision, which is risky, non-therapeutic cosmetic surgery. The LLL has a duty to inform new mothers about the breastfeeding issues that may arise with circumcision. Tell them the truth!

Furthermore, I hereby ask the Board of Directors to issue a policy statement about circumcision’s effects on breastfeeding. As from the LLL’S aforementioned link, “The mother may have questions as to whether or not the separation such a procedure requires will interfere with establishing her milk supply. There can be the issue of trauma to the baby which may result in difficulty comforting the baby enough to get him to nurse. The mother may become anxious, resulting in problems with let-down or the baby picking up on her anxiety.” These are only SOME of the issues that are very likely to arise if a baby is circumcised. Leaders should be able to counsel mothers accordingly.

Why Mothers Kiss Their Babies

By: Judie Rall
Original Post: BirthingMagazine.ca

After a baby is born, it is natural to see the mother kissing the baby. One would think this is simply because of the emotional bond that has formed between mother and child. While this is true, there are also other very compelling biochemical reasons why it occurs.  These reasons reinforce the understanding that our bodies have inner wisdom which we seldom recognize or trust. Just as our bodies know how to give birth even if we don’t have intellectual knowledge of the process, our bodies’ biological systems also have reasons for the complex social interplay between mother and baby. It just goes to show that, more than ever, we should trust our mothering instincts. … READ MORE!

Sunblock is More Harmful than the Sun!

by: Lisa Russell of LisaRussell.org

Sunblock.

It’s not good for you, it causes cancer. NOT the sun, mind you, the sun block, OKAY

You can read my ramblings or read those of Mike Adams, who is some kind of expert.

It just isn’t logical to me that the SUN- the light of the planet we were born to live on- would be toxic to our SKIN- the only thing designed to get in between our guts and the sun’s light.

Mike says…

The scientific evidence, however, shows quite clearly that sunscreen actually promotes cancer by blocking the body’s absorption of ultraviolet radiation, which produces vitamin D in the skin. Vitamin D, as recent studies have shown, prevents up to 77% of ALL cancers in women (breast cancer, colon cancer, cervical cancer, lung cancer, brain tumors, multiple myeloma… you name it).

He says lots of other logical things, too but I urge you to read his article so I don’t have to paste it all here.

I did a little detective work here, to discover the common ingredients in Sunscreen products and found THIS pdf database and THIS, the Skin Deep cosmetics ingredients database

So- the common sun-blocking ingredients are… READ MORE!

The Great Cloth Diaper Change 2011 – DFW Locations

The DFW area is fortunate to have two locations hosting “The Great Cloth Diaper Change of 2011″

Lewisville and Grand Prairie.

About the Grand Event:

“Judy Aagard’s desire to celebrate Earth Day by hosting a family event for the Tiny Tots community quickly morphed into a dream to set the Guinness World Record for the most cloth diapers changed simultaneously.  Shortly thereafter, The Great Cloth Diaper Change 2011 was conceived and organized by a small group of cloth diaper enthusiasts that were eager to show North America that cloth diapers are a real option for today’s families.

The initial plan was to develop an infrastructure for any cloth diapering fan in North America to be able to get involved in, either as a participant or an organizer.  Word quickly traveled across the oceans and it was soon evident that cloth diapering has a formidable following not just in North America but around the world.  Currently, several countries will be hosting locations to help set the World Record, even though for some it will mean getting up in the middle of the night to do so.

Cloth diapering is alive and well!  More to come as our story unfolds!” via www.greatclothdiaperchange.com

Study Sheds Light On Gluten Sensitivity

By MELINDA BECK
Columnist at WSJ.COM

Lisa Rayburn felt dizzy, bloated and exhausted. Wynn Avocette suffered migraines and body aches. Stephanie Meade’s 4-year-old daughter had constipation and threw temper tantrums.

All three tested negative for celiac disease, a severe intolerance to gluten, a protein found in wheat and other grains. But after their doctors ruled out other causes, all three adults did their own research and cut gluten—and saw the symptoms subside.

A new study in the journal BMC Medicine may shed some light on why. It shows gluten can set off a distinct reaction in the intestines and the immune system, even in people who don’t have celiac disease.

“For the first time, we have scientific evidence that indeed, gluten sensitivity not only exists, but is very different from celiac disease,” says lead author Alessio Fasano, medical director of the University of Maryland’s Center for Celiac Research.

The news will be welcome to people who have suspected a broad range of ailments may be linked to their gluten intake, but have failed to find doctors who agree.  …READ MORE!

Lactation, Breastmilk, Donated Milk, Induced Lactation, and Homemade Formula!

“There is NO SUCH THING as a conscientiously formulated breastmilk substance or alternative that can be COMMERCIALLY produced!

Commercial formula is NOT the answer!”

“… We MOTHERS need to CLAIM our power to lactate and nourish our babies, and ACTIVELY SUPPORT mother’s who cannot by donating our milk. Mother’s, we all, need to STOP FEARING another mother’s milk! It just might save your child’s life and/or give them a much healthier one than if you were to choose commercial formula.

Another commercial formula is not going to solve the problem of not having enough donated breastmilk! Only advocating, supporting, and encouraging every single mother who has a baby that can lactate to actual do so and breastfeed their baby, and then do the same for all lactating mothers to donate their milk to moms and babies in need; AND advocating, supporting, and encouraging the mothers in need to stop fearing another mother’s milk and to openly and lovingly receive the donation, support, and help to nourish their babies the way they were suppose to be, with human milk!

Nor is another commercial formula going to solve the problem of needing a quality breastmilk alternative for galactosemic babies. All commercial formulas are dead, inferior, non-nutritious, and some even poisonous, MAN-MADE synthetic products. Only the advocating, supporting, encouraging, and educating of a mother’s right to choose to make homemade LIVE nutritious infant formula to nourish her baby will make a difference!

We need to support ALL MOTHERS even if breastmilk was not an option for them! We need to realize that the commercialization and marketing of infant formula HAS and IS undermining our right, power, desire, and ability as Mothers to breastfeed our babies, to receive donor breastmilk, AND to choose to provide our babies with a homemade LIVE nutritious infant formula when breastmilk is not an option.

We need to stand together and support what is BEST for our babies!”
